There have been a few developments in the wonderful world of WordPress over the last little while. Let’s take a look:

1. WordPress 2.6 was released. Nuff said.
2. WordPress for iPhone app released. This would be exciting news, BUT I’VE NEVER TOUCHED AN IPHONE IN MY LIFE SINCE THEY DON’T SELL THEM IN ISRAEL. Whew. I feel better. Anyways, read about it here and here, and in a million other places.
3. Remember the Theme Viewer, that organized place where you could go to browse WordPress themes, or find themes according to specific criteria like the color black? Well it’s back in action, so let’s just pray that those people from the underbelly of the Internet don’t show up and ruin everything for us again.

FreshPost plugin – a great way to add extra features to a WordPress site is by using Custom Fields. But the whole key-entering business doesn’t work so well with clients who just want one button they can press. This plugin solves that problem by allowing you to create custom write panels, add custom fields (images, drop downs, file upload, images, checkboxes, textareas, etc..), and automatically resize images.

WordPress Tips + Things You Can Do After Installing WordPress – Digital Inspiration has published a handy list of things you can and should do after installing WordPress, like changing your default image folder, removing unecessary code, preventing people from casually browsing your WordPress Folders, etc.

I recently wrote about a plugin that made the WordPress admin more accessible from an iPhone. Now there’s the iWPhone plugin/theme package that “automatically reformats your blog’s content for optimized viewing on Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch. It detects the iPhone/iPod touch’s User Agent and serves up the content with the special theme only to iPhone and iPod touch visitors, all other browsers will view your WordPress blog with your current theme.”

Here is a WordPress admin plugin for better access to the admin in mobile phones, in particular the iPhone. Here is the plugin description:

Mobile Admin adapts the WordPress admin UI to be more friendly to mobile devices, specifically phones. The iPhone is the primary target (and only supported device) for version 1, with more to come in the future.

One of my current clients is the type of guy who is always on the run, and depends heavily on his Blackberry and cellphone for keeping up to date on emails and the web. He’s the first client who has brought up the subject of creating a site that is accessible on a mobile phone.

The subject was sidelined, but luckily I came across two plugins that make your WordPress site accessible on mobile phones with the click of a button!

2. WordPress Mobile Edition from Alex King

Andy Moore gives a link to a site that lets you see how your site would look on a cellphone: The .mobi mobile emulator.
