Thanks for the great review. And nice meeting you!

As a new blogger I've learnt quite a bit from this conference.
I'm not familiar with PHP, but I am a Java developer, so I was glad to get some under the hood kind of presentations, such as Ziv's session you've mentioned and as Maya's session.

Great Post Rebecca and great seeing you and others yesterday.

For those interested, I tried to tweet highlights of the sessions. Internet connectivity wasn't always available (the presenters - especially the first session - really suffered from this, later presenters were wiser bringing cellular connectivity with them).

The last session I went to was actually one of the best, about cross-platform compatibility. This was given by Ori Idan head of the W3C office in Israel. The session was sparsley attended which gave us the ability to have some fruitfil discussions.

One of the nice things about attending sessions like this is that you can confirm that you are not crazy and that other people experience what you do - most notably that Internet Explorer - especially IE6 - does not conform to W3C standards.

What to do?
Develop according to W3C standards, check it on FireFox (several lecturers suggested tweaking with the Firebug add-on) and then test and tweak in IE 6 and 7.

The good news is that some of this will be fixed in IE 8 and for those problems with Firefox caused by unclear standard specifications, a representative of Firefox attending the session assured us they would be cleared up in Firefox 3.

By the way, adhering to W3C standards is not just good for cross-browser compatibility, but also for accessibility and for the motivator of all things Web: SEO.

Ori Idan invited anyone with suggestions of what the W3C can do to encourage Israeli sites to be standard compliant to be in touch with him.

Here's looking towards a standards compliant future,
Charlie Kalech
